On October 28, 2009, a Summit on Financial Education was held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, hosted by the newly formed Massachusetts Financial Education Collaborative. Over one hundred thirty financial educators, financial curriculum providers, community-based service providers, financial institutions representatives, regulators, and other interested parties met for to network and share ideas for improving financial education in Massachusetts. This was the first meeting of its kind to explore the development of a coordinated, collaborative infrastructure for financial education delivery in the state.

The day opened with greetings from Richard Walker, Vice President of Community Affairs for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and State Treasurer Timothy Cahill. Remarks by Barbara Anthony, Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs, included a Proclamation from the Governor declaring October to be Financial Education Month in the Commonwealth, and recognizing the formation of the Massachusetts Financial Education Collaborative.
